“Saborea Lanzarote” gastronomic event
This weekend was held in the Villa de Teguise the seventh edition of the food and wine festival Saborea Lanzarote, and I didn’t miss the opportunity to visit it and, above all, enjoy the activities offered and of course, good cooking.
The idea of this event was born in 2010 from the hand of Saborea Spain, an initiative promoted by Turespaña to publicize different tourist destinations of high gastronomic value. Over the years it has become the largest gastronomic event in the Canary Islands.
The large number of exhibitors, more than eighty, and activities to be carried out in this festival, means that it has to be held in different spaces and corners of La Villa. From talks in the Timple Museum to presentations in the tents of the Las Maretas Park, cooking exhibitions and samples of the local product.
In the Plaza de los Leones we find a group of exhibitors under a tent and outside it which serve to give us a little idea of what awaits us in the Mareta Park, just behind the church where we’ll find most of the stands of the sample. In front of the entrance of the square, in the Timple Museum, we find several cheese tasting workshops, wines, and intimate spaces to enjoy good wine, food and live music.
Since the opening of the event, the different scents that come out of each of the stalls are more than enough to attract us. If we add to that the care and careful presentation with which the products are presented, it is very difficult to choose what we want to try. Unfortunately it would be impossible to eat everything!
The lectures, tastings, master class and showcookings are followed by the different corners of La Villa. With special attention in this edition to the flavors of the sea, which is the theme chosen as the main theme for this year.
Among the large number of chefs involved in the festival we must mention as outstanding Pepe Solla, chef with a Michelin star and Ángel León, El Chef del Mar, who last week received his third Michelin star for his restaurant Aponiente and the first in his restaurant Alevante.
Apart from the food, as it could not be otherwise in this island, the wineries were present with their best wines, as well as the craft breweries of the island.
In this festival they do not forget the little ones having a special program for them with the Aula Chinijo Chef, where they could register to learn different recipes adapted for the little ones.
Like all the editions, the funds raised in the drinks stands were allocated to a charitable cause, this time to the project for the creation of a children’s park and a viewing terrace in the José Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote. All this in collaboration with the Rotary Club Lanzarote Costa Teguise.
I have to say that every year the appointment is exceeded and it is a success of organization and assistance. It has become one of my favorite dates of the year, and certainly of many people, especially if you like good cooking.
