Slingshot Volcan Tour
Today it’s time to go to a part of the island in a totally different way, without buses, queues and other rhythm. So I prepare and go to “Lanzarote to Horse”, about 17 kms from Arrecife towards Yaiza. There I know Carlos who is going to guide us on an excursion in the south of the island.
I arrived early, so I can have a coffee on the terrace of the restaurant while we wait for the rest of the group. Then we all head towards the area where the vehicles are that will take us in our ride, the Slingshot.
The first impression is that it is a bad guy car, aggressive lines and two colors, convertible, two-seater and with a pint of being really fun to drive.
Before I jump into the car, I notice that is a three-wheeled car, the two front and one back, just the reverse of the Trike, which today will accompany us on our ride, although it is not the usual.
After giving us the indications of safety and maneuverability of the vehicles, we formed a line and followed Carlos to the first of our two stops
El Echadero de los Camellos.
We drive in the direction of Las Montañas del Fuego passing by La Geria and enjoying its landscape plagued by vineyards in the form of half moon so characteristic of the island.
We leave behind the Cuervo volcano and passing through the villages of Tinguatón and Mancha Blanca following the road to make our first stop in the Echadero de los Camellos, in the National Park of Timanfaya, a quick stop to see the camels, visiting the museum or having a drink in the cafeteria and back on the road.
From Timanfaya we head to El Golfo through the village of Yaiza. We arrive at this old sailor village where we make our second stop.
There are places of Lanzarote that is always a pleasure and the Charco de los Clicos or Green Lake is one of them.
Los Hervideros y Janubio.
We bid farewell to El Golfo and his sights to continue with the last part of our ride, always he thought that driving down the Hervideros road is like starring in a car advertisement, and with the Slingshot the feeling is accentuated. The salt-laden sea breeze will refresh us while we enjoy the scenery of the Hervideros and Salinas de Janubio.
It’s a shame but the time passes quickly when you’re having a good time, and now it seems to fly. So we headed back to Lanzarote to Caballo again crossing the town of Yaiza, this time in the opposite direction to reach the point where we left a little over two hours ago.
In short, Slingshot is a fun and different way to enjoy the island’s scenery, a quick tour of the south that is short and leaves you wanting to explore the north coast of the island in Slingshot. Maybe another time!
