On Sunday, October 14, the twenty-sixth edition of the Crossing to Nado El Río will be held. As every year since 1993, this sports event is held, which every year attracts more and more participants, coming from all over the world. This year, in addition, the time for the realization of the test promises to be unbeatable.
The Crossing to Swim The River is developed in the incomparable natural place of the Marine Reserve of the Chinijo Archipelago. Being this natural reserve the largest in Europe, keeping among its waters an incredible diversity of marine flora and fauna, which includes La Graciosa, Alegranza and the islets, in a total of 70700 hectares.
The Crossing consists of saving to swim, the stretch included between the Beach of Low Risco, in Lanzarote, and Caleta del Sebo, in the Graciosa. More than 2600 meters away, which added to the currents that cross this stretch, between the island of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, called El Río; They will test the endurance of hundreds of swimmers of all ages.
Last year more than 700 participants participated in the event, 675 adults and 50 minors. This year the participation is expected to be the same, because although the places are limited, the waiting lists to cover possible casualties are also full.
There are several ways to enjoy this very peculiar sporting event: one of them, as it could not be otherwise, is participating in it, although the inscriptions are closed since September. Another way would be from the top of the Risco de Famara with good binoculars or a telephoto lens, or from inside the Mirador del Río, enjoying an aperitif while we watch the participants in the race boil the water with their strokes. And the best way to enjoy the test, if you can not participate in it, is, without a doubt, to hire the I Love Travesía excursion.
With the excursion, I Love Travesía, we will be able to enjoy the trip and cheer on the participants from very close by, in a boat of Lines Romero, and enjoying a pinchos of tortilla and drinks. The departure from the Intercambiador de Arrecife will take place at 8:30 in the morning by bus, towards Órzola. As soon as everything is ready, the boats will take the participants to the beach of Bajo Risco, and with I Love Cruise, they will follow the swimmers very closely to Caleta del Sebo.
Both before and after the test, in Caleta del Sebo there will be celebrations as always, music and activities, until the delivery of trophies and the return to Arrecife at 18:40.
