This course is dedicated to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the underwater world and aspires to a water sports lifestyle. The AIDA Level 1 freediving certificate is official course given by qualified instructor Sergio Soria, a professional freediver with over 20 years’ experience.
The level I freediving certificate is open to those who have no experience in freediving, diving or any kind of water sport. This course will provide you with basic knowledge of the sport, breathing techniques, relaxation, finning techniques, safety training and immersion techniques such as duck diving.
Training location: Centro Deportivo Fariones (a sports centre with pools and a gym for practising land-based free diving and movement techniques). The centre is based in Puerto del Carmen, near the Biosfera shopping centre.
Duration: Two days from 09.30 to 15:00 and one day from 09.30 to 12:00
Two theoretical sessions: breathing techniques, physiology, freediver movements.
One session on dynamic disciplines: practicing finning movements while holding your breath in the Fariones sports centre swimming pool.
One session on static apnea: focusing on concentration and relaxation to improve your breath hold time underwater in the swimming pool.
Three sessions in open water: there is a beach with an appropriate freediving zone close to the sports centre.

We’ll start around 09:30 with some theory on physiology, equalising and free diving equipment, followed by a breathing session on land, and later in the sea. After our lunch break, we carry on in the pool with static and dynamic apnea techniques.
Theory on the risks of freediving and how to avoid them. Recognising LMC (loss of motor control) and syncope (fainting). Later we’ll enter the sea to practice duck diving, finning technique, constant weight, as well as pressure and equalisation.
Last session in the sea to practice rescue techniques, followed by a written exam.

This beginners’ course is carried out on a beach near Puerto del Carmen harbour. Even so, we’ll study basic practical and theoretical breathing concepts on dry land at Sport Centre Fariones.
One breathing and relaxation session - you will learn to improve your breathing and lower your heart rate.
One breathing session on dry land .
One theoretical session in one of the swimming pools at Centro Deportivo Fariones in Puerto del Carmen.
One freediving session in the sea, in an area especially reserved for this sport near the old harbour of Puerto del Carmen.
You must be at least 18 years of age (or 12 with parental consent).
You must be able to swim.
Please bring a doctor's certificate issued within the last two years confirming that you are in an adequate physical condition to practice freediving. If you are not in possession of a medical certificate, a doctor will assess you during the course for an extra charge of €30.
Please bring plenty of water and fruit.
We recommend that you have a light breakfast, as heavy meals consume a lot of oxygen and can hinder freediving in deep water.
This activity doesn´t include transportation.
