Itinerary

What to see in the north of Lanzarote

Lanzarote is an island of contrasts that can be discovered from a range of perspectives: check out its beaches, enjoy it attractions, experience the raw nature of its volcanoes or join excursions that reveal its heart and soul.

This is the aim of our Northern Route Lanzarote. A tour that not only shows you its viewpoints and villages, but also the artwork of the Canary Islands’ most famous artist: César Manrique, a genius that blended art and nature, something that is particularly evident in the northern part of the easternmost Canary Island.

Do you want to know what surprises we have in store for you?

Town of Teguise

Our excursion through the north of Lanzarote starts in the old town of Teguise, former capital of the island, and a worthy subject for your camera lens. Wander around its cobblestone streets and white houses, admire the historic centre of La Villa, delve into its colourful markets and appreciate the contrasts of this whitewashed town amidst arid and volcanic backdrop.
This is the first stop on our Northern Route Lanzarote that starts at 09:30, the perfect time for observing the island’s contrasts.

Cesar Manrique’s Mirador del Rio

You'll find César Manrique's work in the most unexpected parts of Lanzarote. A genius who managed to blend art and nature through contemporary gardens, sculptures and viewpoints like Mirador del Rio. A platform that blends seamlessly into the cliff face and the magnificent landscape of the north of Lanzarote.

The ideal spot for awesome photos, Mirador del Rio gives you a front row seat to admire La Graciosa in the distance, now officially the eighth Canary Island (see it first hand through one of our excursions to La Graciosa).
On the way to this extraordinary place will also pass by the impressive crater of Volcán de la Corona and little quaint villages in the north of Lanzarote.

Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes

Legend has it that, many years ago, pirates and slaves used to hide in Cueva de los Verdes, a tunnel that connects the island's interior with the Atlantic Ocean. A mysterious and iconic place, Cueva de los Verdes is the next stop of our tour. It gives us the perfect excuse to admire César Manrique’s magical touch, which helped turn it into one of the most fascinating places in Lanzarote.

Once you've visited Cueva de los Verdes, Jameos del Agua is the next intriguing stop. Formed when the roof of a volcanic tunnel fell in to create a natural skylight, Jameos del Agua was transformed into a historical garden, where a swimming pool, lush vegetation and a natural auditorium provide the ultimate paradise for photographers.

The last leg of our Northern Route Lanzarote takes us to the Aloe Vera Museum in Punta Mujeres. We’ll discover how this miraculous plant - which is so traditional in Lanzarote - is cultivated and prepared
